Lost Aircraft Found in Greenland, No Survivors Reported

(MENAFN) Danish air traffic authority Naviair confirmed Monday that a small aircraft reported missing between Canada and Greenland has been located, with no survivors, according to reports.

Media reported that authorities discovered the crash site in the Sermitsiaq mountain region, roughly 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) northeast of Greenland’s capital, Nuuk. Officials confirmed that the plane’s sole occupant had died.

Search efforts commenced over the weekend but were briefly paused on Saturday due to poor weather and low visibility. Operations resumed Sunday, during which Naviair confirmed that the aircraft—a Cessna T182—was registered to an American company and had departed from Newfoundland and Labrador before contact was lost.

Textron Aviation, owner of the Cessna brand, told media that it was aware of the crash but could not release further information, citing restrictions from the US National Transportation Safety Board and the Danish Maritime Accident Investigation Board.

Authorities stated that the next of kin have been notified, and the investigation has now been transferred to the police, the report added.
